Johnny Ball, the renowned 87-year-old TV personality, recently disclosed that he had been privately fighting cancer. This revelation follows the passing of his ex-wife, Julia, just a year ago.
During this difficult time, Johnny extended his support to his daughter, Zoe Ball, a 54-year-old BBC radio presenter. Zoe had tragically lost her mother within 12 weeks of her cancer diagnosis.
Johnny, known for his appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in 2012 and his role on Play School since 1967, shared with The Mirror that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in August 2022. After undergoing three months of daily radiation treatment starting in September, he happily reported that he is now in good health.
Zoe Ball, in a heartfelt Instagram post last year, shared memories of her mother’s funeral, describing it as a tough yet perfect day filled with love and remembrance. Johnny has been a pillar of strength for Zoe, not only during her mother’s illness and passing but also after the tragic loss of her partner, Billy Yates, in 2017.
Reflecting on their family’s challenges, Johnny expressed how distance sometimes made it hard to offer direct support to Zoe but highlighted the importance of staying connected and encouraging her to stay strong during tough times.
Despite the ups and downs, Johnny affirmed that their bond remains strong, even during moments when discussions may not include him. Zoe, who continues to remember Billy fondly, emphasized the impact of his struggle with depression on her life and described his loss as the most challenging experience she has faced.
