A mother of one described as “beautiful” tragically lost her life in a devastating collision with a heavy goods vehicle while driving home from work, a coroner’s inquest revealed.
Chloe Lightfoot, aged 33, was on her way back along the A66 in Barnard Castle, County Durham, when her Citroen Berlingo van crashed with a HGV shortly after 8 am on August 26.
Emergency services, including paramedics, air ambulance, and fire and rescue teams, rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, Chloe could not be saved and was declared dead.
Following her passing, Chloe’s grieving family issued a heartfelt statement, expressing their deep sorrow over the loss of a beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend. They emphasized the profound impact Chloe had on their lives and how she will be dearly missed.
An inquiry into Chloe’s death commenced at Crook Coroner’s Court, where details emerged about her residence in Spennymoor and occupation as a sales administrator. The post-mortem examination at Newcastle Freeman Hospital determined the cause of death as head and chest injuries.

In a separate incident, tributes poured in for another woman who tragically passed away in a car accident. Jodie Amanda James, a 33-year-old mother, was critically injured in a collision while cycling along the A40 road near Llanddewi Velfrey, Pembrokeshire, on August 22. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries on August 24.
The family of Jodie released a touching statement through the police, describing her as a loving mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. They highlighted Jodie’s inspirational nature and the special place she held in their hearts.
