Jay Slater, a 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, tragically passed away in July last year after going missing in June. Prior to his disappearance, he attended a music festival with friends Lucy Law, Brad Hargreaves, and Brandon Hodgson. In the hours following his vanishing, Jay communicated with his friends, mentioning his distance from their location and his low phone battery.
Brad, one of Jay’s friends, shared details of their final phone conversation, where Jay seemed carefree despite being away from his group and accommodations. During the call, Jay mentioned walking down a road and expressed his intention to video call Brad later. Brad suspected Jay would choose a safer path back and heard what seemed like Jay slipping on rocks, indicating his deviation from the road.
Although Brad found the situation amusing at the time, he later realized Jay might have encountered a risky situation. Lucy, another friend, described a distressing call to Spanish police where she expressed concern about Jay’s safety after he had gone into the mountains with unknown individuals and felt trapped. The call abruptly ended, leaving Lucy worried about Jay’s well-being.
The events leading to Jay’s discovery in a ravine in Tenerife’s Parque Rural de Teno on July 15, 2024, shed light on the mystery surrounding his disappearance. A Channel 4 documentary showcasing unheard audio recordings and messages offers insights into the search for answers by the Slater family. The documentary, “The Disappearance of Jay Slater,” is set to air on Channel 4 on Sunday, September 28, at 9pm.
