A tragic incident unfolded as a couple, Jeferson Luiz Sagaz, 37, and Ana Carolina Silva, 41, passed away in a scalding motel bathtub after a night of celebration for their daughter’s fourth birthday. The couple had enjoyed the day at a food park and a nightclub, leaving their child with Jeferson’s sister before checking into the Dallas Motel in São José, Santa Catarina state, Brazil.
Concern arose when the couple failed to collect their daughter the next morning, prompting relatives to contact the authorities. Subsequently, the lifeless bodies of Jeferson and Ana were discovered in the motel bathroom. Investigators determined that the couple had collapsed in a bathtub filled with 50°C water while a space heater was emitting heat into the room.
A toxicology analysis revealed exceedingly high alcohol levels and traces of cocaine in their systems. The Chief Medical Examiner, Andressa Boer Fronza, attributed their deaths to exogenous poisoning, resulting in heatstroke, intense dehydration, thermal collapse, organ failure, and ultimately, death.
After extensive forensic tests ruling out other potential causes of death, it was concluded that heat exposure was the fatal factor. The couple, known for their parenting dedication and sociable nature, had no history of violence. Ana Carolina’s family dismissed allegations of her being a regular drug user, suggesting a possible involuntary ingestion of cocaine due to physical incompatibility with the substance, especially when combined with alcohol.
Tragically, the couple’s daughter is now orphaned as a consequence of the ill-fated turn of events during her birthday celebration. This incident follows another sorrowful event where Alexandra Săsărman was discovered deceased on her 22nd birthday in a hot tub due to a suspected cardiac arrest induced by the high water temperature.
