A young British man who was imprisoned in Dubai for engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor has tragically passed away, just three months after his release. Marcus Fakana, 19, died in a fatal car accident in Tottenham, north London. He had been holidaying in Dubai when he met a girl from London, and despite both parties consenting to the relationship, legal implications arose due to her age.
Following a report by the girl’s mother to the Dubai police, Marcus was arrested and held at the Al Barsha Police Station for three days before being sentenced to a year in the al-Awir prison. Despite pleading for mercy and expressing remorse for unintentionally breaking the law, he remained incarcerated until a royal pardon granted his release.
Upon returning to London, Marcus tragically lost his life in a collision, leaving his family and supporters devastated. Marcus’s family and friends led a campaign for his freedom, which ultimately succeeded with the help of legal advocates.
