In the time of “Friends,” Matthew Perry’s Chandler Bing captivated audiences, but following his passing in 2023, fans grappled with the disclosure of his ketamine addiction contrasting with the beloved sitcom character they adored. Netflix now teases a comprehensive portrayal of the Canadian actor in the upcoming three-part documentary series titled “The One About Matthew Perry.”
The series will delve into Perry’s evolution from an emerging comedic talent to his iconic role on the popular NBC show, featuring never-before-heard accounts from his inner circle, including close friends and his sister, Mia Perry Bowick, a grief-focused psychotherapist. Bowick has publicly shared her emotional journey post-Perry’s demise, expressing the complexity of loving him amidst his struggles beyond his on-screen persona as Chandler.
Tragically, Perry was discovered deceased at 54 from a ketamine overdose in his home’s hot tub. Subsequently, five individuals pleaded guilty to various offenses related to supplying him with the drug. Notably, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who sold Perry ketamine, is appealing his 30-month prison sentence.
Netflix assures the docuseries will not solely highlight Perry’s admirers’ reminiscences but will also unveil fresh insights into his personal battles, honoring his legacy of transparency and advocacy. The documentary is set to premiere on October 27, offering viewers a deeper understanding of the multifaceted life of Matthew Perry.
