Currently, there are more than 100 flood alerts active in England, particularly affecting the Midlands, North, and South West regions.

In England, some areas may experience up to 80mm of rainfall, while parts of Wales could see 100-150mm on higher ground or 50-75mm across the region, according to the Met Office’s warning.

The potential for significant flooding in certain areas has prompted the issuance of an amber weather warning, signaling a threat to life. The British Red Cross has mobilized emergency response teams to assist the most vulnerable communities.

Laura Scott, the head of crisis response and resilience at the British Red Cross, emphasized the importance of preparing for weather emergencies like flooding, urging individuals to secure outdoor items, inspect drainage systems, and have evacuation plans in place for their families and pets.

The adverse weather conditions may lead to power disruptions, travel disturbances, and structural damage, as warned by the Met Office. Train services between Exeter and Barnstaple in Devon are likely to be impacted by flooding until Sunday, with Chiltern Railways operating on a reduced schedule on Friday due to expected weather-related disruptions affecting CrossCountry, London Northwestern, and West Midlands services.

Weather expert Jim Dale, speaking to The Mirror, stressed the significance of heeding weather warnings, especially advising caution to drivers and recommending avoiding unnecessary travel during the severe weather conditions.

The AA has echoed the warnings, advising against traveling in hazardous weather conditions and emphasizing the importance of safety first. Travelers are urged to stay informed about changing conditions and ensure preparedness before embarking on any journeys.

A separate yellow rain warning covers a wide area of England, spanning from Cheshire and North Yorkshire down to the southern coast.
