Keir Starmer has responded to Donald Trump’s recent criticism of London by asserting that the comments made about the city are not reflective of the actual situation. Speaking at the Global Progress Action summit to an international audience, Starmer emphasized that London is not the chaotic “wasteland” that some portray it to be. Trump had inaccurately claimed that the city had undergone significant changes and falsely suggested that it was leaning towards Sharia law.
Starmer addressed the summit attendees, highlighting the disparity between the negative narratives surrounding various countries, communities, and cities and the reality on the ground. He welcomed the guests to London, encouraging them to explore the city and experience its vibrant atmosphere firsthand, contradicting the misconceptions propagated by some individuals.
The Labour leader criticized the dissemination of misleading information about places and communities globally, attributing it to a fabricated narrative that lacks truth and authenticity. In a separate incident, Trump had criticized London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, and made unfounded claims about rising crime rates in the city. This feud had escalated further with Khan accusing Trump of discriminatory behavior.

Starmer condemned the toxic mindset that promotes a sense of impending violent conflict within nations, citing a recent march organized by Tommy Robinson as an example of this dangerous rhetoric.
