“Starling Leads Top Current Account Providers in Which? Survey”

Date:

Which? has unveiled its top current account providers and advised millions of customers to consider switching. The consumer rights organization assessed various aspects such as fees, overdrafts, charges, and benefits in its recent survey. Additionally, they interviewed over 6,600 customers to gauge satisfaction levels with their current accounts.

Six providers received the Which? Recommended Provider (WRP) status, including Chase, Danske Bank, First Direct, Monzo, Nationwide, and Starling. Starling emerged as the leader with an impressive customer score of 86% and secured its seventh WRP badge. It received a perfect five-star rating for online and mobile banking and a four-star rating for customer service.

Monzo achieved an 85% customer score, earning five stars for mobile banking ease and four stars for overall customer service. First Direct obtained an 84% customer score and has been the longest-standing current account WRP for over a decade.

Nationwide shared the 84% customer score, with four stars for in-branch service and five stars for online banking. Chase, a digital bank under JPMorgan, attained an 82% customer score, excelling with five stars for its mobile app and four stars for customer service and other categories.

Danske Bank received an 80% customer score, earning predominantly four-star ratings, especially for customer service and online banking. Allied Irish Bank narrowly missed the WRP status despite an 85% customer score. Revolut, scoring 83%, also wasn’t named a WRP due to its e-money provider status in the UK.

According to a recent Which? survey involving over 6,600 current account holders, nearly 37% have remained loyal to the same provider for over 20 years. TSB ranked lowest with a 67% customer score, while Virgin Money, Santander, and Halifax closely followed at 71%.

Sam Richardson, Deputy Editor of Which? Money, highlighted the importance of exploring different banking options for better perks and services. He encouraged long-term loyalists to switch to Which? Recommended Providers for enhanced benefits and a hassle-free process.

Representatives from TSB and Virgin Money emphasized their commitment to improving customer service and enhancing digital banking experiences. The Mirror reached out to Santander and Halifax for their comments on the rankings and survey findings.
