“Sky Rolls Out Major Update for Glass TVs and Stream Devices”

Date:

Sky has recently released a significant update for its popular Glass TVs and Stream boxes, available for free to all users of these devices. This update, which started rolling out last week, introduces various new features, such as the capability to manage Sky’s internet-connected devices using a smartphone and set program reminders for any listings in the TV guide.

The settings menu has been revamped for easier navigation, and additional accessibility options have been included, like enhanced contrast controls for text and backgrounds within Sky applications. Describing the improvements, the company stated, “Sky’s continually evolving operating system, Sky OS, has been enhanced, providing Sky Glass and Stream customers with smarter ways to control their TV.”

For owners of Sky Glass TV, Sky Glass Air device, or Sky Stream box, these features will automatically be delivered without requiring any action from the users. The update installs itself seamlessly.

Here are the latest features now accessible on your television:

– Set reminders for favorite shows: Users can now set reminders on all Sky Glass and Stream devices, eliminating the need to search for the remote when important events like a Premier League match or season finale are about to start. Reminders can be scheduled for any program in the TV guide by visiting the show page and selecting “Set a reminder.” A notification will appear at the top of the screen when the show begins.

– Convenient TV control: In case the remote is misplaced, Sky Glass and Stream users can now control their devices via the new digital Sky remote app, available on iOS and Android. The app allows easy access to favorite shows, channel changes, and playback management with a simple tap. Additionally, the remote app incorporates built-in accessibility features like screen reader support.

– Streamlined settings by Sky: Sky has simplified its settings, making them more accessible by pressing the three dots on the Sky remote and scrolling right, without the need to scroll down. The company has relocated the quick access menu for faster navigation to settings like picture and sound, parental controls, and accessibility.

Furthermore, several new accessibility features have been introduced:

– Enhanced voice guidance experience: Users can adjust voice guidance speed while navigating the user interface and within popular apps such as Sky Sports +, Sky Store, Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, and RTE.

– High contrast in Sky apps: Users can modify the contrast between background and text in Sky apps by enabling High contrast via the Sky Glass or Sky Stream settings.

– Magnification: The magnification mode can be activated via Accessibility settings to zoom in up to 400% and utilize the number keys on the remote to pan across the user interface.

– Audio Description on demand: Audio Description is now available for Sky on-demand shows, offering the same accessible experience found on Sky broadcast channels to Sky Cinema and Sky Entertainment on-demand content.
