Shirley Ballas has publicly discussed her separation from younger partner Danny Taylor with a straightforward message. The 65-year-old Strictly Come Dancing judge recently ended her engagement with the 52-year-old, stating she has abandoned her pursuit of love.
The breakdown of this relationship follows two previous failed marriages for the renowned dancer. Shirley and Danny ended their relationship in November 2024, with Shirley attributing her struggle to maintain a romantic relationship to her deep dedication to dance.
Describing her strong connection to her career, Shirley expressed, “I’m fixated on my profession and identity. It’s more than just a job to me; it’s like a marriage.” She candidly admitted, “I don’t believe my purpose on Earth is to be in a relationship. Every relationship I’ve had has ultimately failed. Even with my last partner, whom I thought was The One, it didn’t work out.”
Earlier this month, Shirley acknowledged feelings of loneliness but stated she has no intention of getting married again. She first married Sammy Stopford in 1980, achieving top global rankings in Professional Latin dancing before their split in 1984. Subsequently, Shirley partnered with American dancer Corky Ballas, marrying him a year later and welcoming their son Mark in 1986.
Despite her recent unsuccessful romance with Danny, who was 13 years younger, Shirley now prefers the idea of dating someone closer to her own age rather than a younger “toyboy.” In her autobiography, “Best Foot Forward,” Shirley emphasized her desire for a future partner who is financially independent and unattached.
Admitting her struggles with loneliness, Shirley revealed she attempted to join the elite dating platform Raya but found it challenging. She specified her age preference for a partner, jokingly mentioning a broad range of 55 to 70 if they are fit, and even up to 98 if they are wealthy.
Declaring that she has no interest in remarrying due to her past failed relationships, Shirley expressed her skepticism about lasting love. Despite enjoying the independence of being single, she confessed to missing the intimacy and affection that come with a committed relationship.
