“Severe Flooding Hits Spanish Destinations: Red Weather Alert Issued”

Date:

A significant warning has been issued in popular Spanish destinations due to severe flooding resulting in submerged cars. Holidaymakers planning trips abroad have been alerted with a red weather warning as Ibiza airport faced water infiltration, impacting baggage security areas.

Various hotspots, including the party island, have been cautioned about potential travel disruptions due to torrential rainfall. Ibiza experienced a heavy rainstorm yesterday, causing a hillside collapse in the Puig des Molins area, leading to rocks falling onto two hotels below.

Approximately 220 tourists were stranded in the hotels during the incident, prompting a major firefighter rescue operation to save individuals trapped on upper floors. Despite a few injuries, all guests were eventually rescued and relocated to nearby accommodations. Emergency services responded to over 30 critical situations caused by the storm, including a flooded nursery school.

Ibiza Airport responded to the adverse weather conditions, advising travelers to check flight statuses with airlines. Weather presenter Jo Robinson mentioned ongoing rain in parts of Spain but forecasted improving conditions in the upcoming days.

Firefighters have rescued around 15 individuals trapped in various locations due to severe flooding in Ibiza. Local authorities have urged residents to avoid outdoor activities amidst the challenging circumstances. Schools have been closed, and a red weather alert remains in effect for Ibiza and Formentera.

Aena, the Spanish airport operator, reported significant rainfall causing water saturation and subsequent leaks at Ibiza Airport. Flight operations were minimally affected, with some diversions during the heaviest downpours. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.

In another development, a region in the Alicante area is under an orange warning due to intense rainfall, following the impact of Storm Gabrielle. Videos and images circulating online depict the extent of the flooding and challenges faced by residents and travelers in the affected regions.

As the weather agency issues red warnings and advises caution, residents are encouraged to prioritize safety, avoid travel unless necessary, and follow official guidance during this period of extreme weather conditions.
