Samsung TV owners in the UK are set to receive a significant free upgrade soon, providing them access to a variety of bonus content. UKTV has officially announced that its popular free-to-air linear channels will soon be accessible on Samsung screens, allowing UK viewers to enjoy content without the need for extra devices for the first time.
The channels will be delivered via the internet, eliminating the requirement for a traditional aerial connection. In addition to this, Samsung will introduce a dedicated section on its home screen to showcase content from the U streaming service, making it easier for users to discover and watch classic comedies, dramas, and factual shows without the hassle of navigating through menus or settings.
Later this year, channels such as U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&YESTERDAY, U&W, and U&eden will be directly accessible through a deep link from Samsung’s Universal Guide to the U app. Samsung anticipates that this rollout will encompass millions of its TVs, with the channels being prominently featured in the platform’s ‘Live’ tab and Universal Guide, ensuring that UKTV’s live and on-demand content remains easily accessible for viewers relying on internet-based TV services.
Jonathan Newman, General Manager of Commercial at UKTV and BBC Studios UK and Ireland, expressed enthusiasm for the enhanced partnership with Samsung, emphasizing the increased accessibility of the U app to Samsung customers and the continued visibility of UKTV’s diverse content range across video-on-demand and live channels.
Dan Harvie, Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances at Samsung UK and Ireland, highlighted the integral role that UKTV plays in enhancing the entertainment offerings on Samsung TVs, emphasizing the company’s commitment to providing customers with a top-notch entertainment experience through access to a wide array of broadcast content.
As the leading TV brand globally for the past 20 years, Samsung remains dedicated to enhancing the viewing experience through innovative partnerships like this one, which combines UKTV’s content with services such as Samsung TV Plus and integrated broadcast app access. Although an official launch date has not been disclosed, viewers can expect to see these new features on Samsung TVs in the near future.
