The latest assessment of UK broadband services has revealed an unexpected champion. Plusnet, a subsidiary of BT, emerged victorious in the annual awards presented by Broadband Genie, surpassing industry giants like BT, Sky, and Virgin Media. Plusnet not only secured the title of the best broadband provider but also claimed accolades for being the most reliable and user-friendly.
According to Alex Tofts, a strategist at Broadband Genie, Plusnet’s appeal lies in its straightforward broadband-only deals without additional services like TV or phone bundles. The ISP’s no-frills approach, combined with zero setup costs and exceptional customer support, contributed to its success.
In addition to Plusnet, other internet service providers were recognized by Broadband Genie for their achievements. NOW, Three, Vodafone, and Virgin received awards in categories such as Best Value for Money, Fastest Widely Available Provider, and Best Customer Service.
The survey highlighted areas where improvements are needed within the broadband industry. Customer satisfaction with service providers’ customer service was notably low, with Direct Save and Zen Internet falling below average scores. Value for money was also a concern, with Virgin Media, BT, TalkTalk, and Sky Broadband trailing behind in customer perceptions of cost-effectiveness.
Alex Tofts emphasized the significance of addressing customer concerns, especially amidst increasing mid-contract price hikes. He suggested that regulatory intervention, such as banning mid-contract price increases, could help improve customer satisfaction and value for money in the broadband market.
