Piers Morgan Revises Stance on Jake Paul Boxing Career

Date:

Piers Morgan has clarified his recent social media remarks concerning Jake Paul’s boxing career, where he criticized the fights as “boring staged events.” The comments arose amidst speculation that Paul might face off against Anthony Joshua in the ring.

Paul, 28, gained initial fame on YouTube before transitioning to boxing in 2020, securing 12 victories since then. Notably, he has defeated renowned figures like Mike Tyson and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in the heavyweight and cruiserweight divisions, respectively, as well as UFC star Nate Diaz.

While some remain unconvinced by Paul’s boxing performances, Morgan recently shifted his stance. He emphasized that his criticism was directed towards Paul’s matches against retired athletes, which contrasts with a potential bout against Joshua, an active fighter.

In a social media post, Morgan explained that his issue with Paul stemmed from facing opponents past their prime, highlighting the importance of competing against current ranked boxers. He expressed openness for Paul to join a discussion on his show to debate the matter further.

Despite skepticism surrounding a potential Paul-Joshua matchup, Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s long-time promoter, acknowledged the possibility. Hearn disclosed that discussions with Paul’s team indicated a genuine interest in the fight, suggesting a 50:50 chance of it materializing. The promoter anticipates further dialogue in the following weeks to determine the fight’s feasibility.
