Paddy Pimblett Champions Mental Health in MMA

Date:

UFC sensation Paddy Pimblett is leading an initiative to enhance mental well-being through the realm of mixed martial arts.

Pimblett, a contender for a lightweight championship opportunity in the upcoming year, has been a vocal supporter of mental health causes. Following his victory over Jordan Leavitt in London in 2022, where he dedicated his win to a late friend who succumbed to suicide, Pimblett established The Baddy Foundation. This foundation aims to address food insecurity issues and combat the stigma surrounding men’s mental health.

In addition to his existing efforts, Pimblett will be acting as a representative for the UFC’s collaboration with OnSide. This collaboration will involve weekly seminars for young individuals, focusing on fostering self-discipline, self-defense skills, confidence, coordination, and mental fortitude under the guidance of skilled instructors in a nurturing environment.

Reflecting on his roots in Liverpool and his journey to the UFC stage, Pimblett expressed, “Coming from Liverpool has profoundly shaped my identity, and it holds great significance to represent my city on the grand UFC platform. Martial arts presented opportunities I never envisioned back then. I take pride in supporting this program as it offers the youth in Wirral a chance to discover their passions, boost confidence, and realize that their aspirations are indeed attainable.”

Jamie Masraff, the CEO of OnSide, commented on the partnership, stating, “Through the collaboration with UFC, young individuals at three of our Youth Zones are already benefitting from top-notch martial arts sessions. We are excited to expand this partnership at The Hive by introducing well-being support groups that mirror UFC’s dedication to enhancing the mental health of young people. These sessions will provide a safe space for open discussions, confidence-building, resilience strengthening, and a sense of belonging.”

Pimblett candidly shared his personal struggles when he told The Times, “There’s a prevailing notion in society that men should remain silent about their issues. If you are a man burdened by troubles and feel the only solution is ending your life, please reach out to someone. I would rather have a friend confide in me than attend their funeral next week.”
