A 20-year-old father in Ohio, US, has been arrested and charged with assaulting his newborn son, resulting in brain damage. Hunter Dalton faces charges of felonious assault, domestic violence by assault, and assault following a domestic incident at an apartment complex. The child’s mother reported the incident to police, stating that Dalton had threatened her and the baby.
Police responded to the call and found the mother safe in the leasing office while Dalton was apprehended outside the couple’s apartment. The baby was discovered in distress, struggling to breathe, and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Doctors confirmed brain damage and bleeding on the brain but expect the infant to survive.
According to the child’s mother, Dalton had a history of violence, including allegedly strangling her the day before the assault. The altercation reportedly escalated when Dalton became enraged over a missing vape device and other issues at home. Despite the accusations, Dalton denied harming his son, claiming he only moved the baby to the cot.
Authorities expressed concern for the child’s well-being and urged the community to support the family during this challenging time. Dalton is currently held on a $1 million bail and faces restrictions if released, including no contact with the victims. His trial is scheduled for September 29.
