The tragic story of Jay Slater captured global attention when the young British apprentice bricklayer went missing during a vacation in Tenerife. Jay’s disappearance in June 2024 led to an extensive search, culminating in the discovery of his body a month later in a remote area near where his phone was last located.
Channel 4 is set to delve into the details of Jay’s death in a new documentary titled “The Disappearance of Jay Slater.” The documentary includes interviews with Jay’s loved ones and sheds light on his final moments, including his visit to an Airbnb with two individuals who were among the last to see him alive.
While attending the NRG music festival in Playa de las Americas with friends, Jay left a club with two acquaintances, Ayub Qassim and Steven Roccas, whom he had met only three days prior. He was last seen at the Airbnb in Masca before embarking on a journey back home, during which he communicated with his friend Lucy Law before his phone battery died.
Jay’s body was eventually discovered on July 15 by a mountain rescue team in the Juan Lopez ravine. The autopsy revealed that his death resulted from injuries sustained in an accidental fall, ruling out any foul play.
During the inquest into Jay’s death in May 2025, Qassim provided a testimony, recounting the events leading up to Jay’s departure from the club. Contrary to earlier reports, Qassim denied accusations of Jay stealing a watch and mentioned offering Jay a ride home later that morning.
The Channel 4 documentary sheds light on the circumstances surrounding Jay’s final hours, offering a glimpse into the tragic events that led to his untimely demise.
