Stefan Dennis, a seasoned Australian performer famous for portraying the cunning character Paul Robinson on the enduring series Neighbours, has signed up for the latest season of Strictly Come Dancing on BBC, bringing a wealth of TV drama experience to the dazzling ballroom.
This move marks a significant milestone in his career that has lasted over 40 years, earning him recognition in both Australia and the UK.
Born in Tawonga, Victoria, and raised on the Gold Coast, Dennis embarked on his acting journey at the age of 11 with a local rendition of Oliver. Subsequently, he appeared in various Australian TV dramas like Prisoner, The Henderson Kids, The Sullivans, Young Doctors, and Sons and Daughters. His career extended to international shows such as The Bill, Dream Team, River City, and Casualty.
In 1985, Dennis gained enduring fame by taking on the iconic role of Paul Robinson in Neighbours, featuring in more than 6,000 episodes across four decades. His character was known for intricate business dealings, complex relationships, and captivating personal storylines that engaged viewers consistently.
Despite temporary departures from Neighbours, Dennis made multiple comebacks, with his final appearance on the show before cancellation set to air later this year on Amazon Freevee. Notably, he will deliver the closing line in the last episode as a tribute to his long service.
Initially considering a “semi-retirement” after learning of his character’s permanent exit, Dennis changed his plans upon being offered a spot on Strictly Come Dancing. With humor, he quipped about actors never truly retiring and expressed eagerness to embrace the challenge alongside professional dancer Dianne Buswell.
