The NBA has refuted allegations presented in an ESPN report regarding the investigation into Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer. According to ESPN’s publication on Monday morning, three sources claimed that the NBA did not uncover any proof indicating that Ballmer used team sponsors to compensate Kawhi Leonard in a manner that evaded the salary cap.
The article suggested that instead of focusing on monetary transactions, the NBA is examining whether the Clippers’ introduction of Leonard to team sponsors breaches the league’s regulations against circumventing the salary cap. In response, NBA spokesperson Mike Bass released a statement on Monday afternoon, denouncing the ESPN article as containing numerous inaccuracies.
Bass emphasized that the outcome of the NBA’s inquiry will be disclosed upon its conclusion. Meanwhile, a potential trade between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Toronto Raptors concerning Leonard has been postponed pending the league’s decision on potential penalties.
