“Mystery Surrounds Toddler’s Remains Found in Dublin”

Date:

The remains of a three-year-old child were found on open land, but the identity of the skeletal remains, believed to be missing Daniel Aruebose, has not been officially confirmed.

The discovery of human remains suspected to be those of the toddler occurred on September 17 in northern Dublin after an extensive search by the Garda’s DMR North Divisional Search Team. The body was manually buried on swampy terrain.

Despite the suspicion, DNA tests are pending to confirm the child’s identity. A spokesperson for the Garda stated that no updates on the DNA identification process are available at present.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the circumstances surrounding Daniel’s death to come forward. The child went missing during the summer of 2021 and was reportedly clandestinely buried by his parents, Maria Aruebose and Ciaran Dirrean, from the Aran Islands, Co Galway. The parents admitted to disposing of him in a shallow grave, claiming he died naturally.

Following the tragic event, Mr. Dirrane relocated to Brazil, while Ms. Aruebose continued to reside in an apartment in Donabate. The grim discovery of the child’s remains, presumed to be Daniel’s, concluded a 16-day search operation conducted by the Gardaí on the lands.

The findings marked a sorrowful end to the extensive search for the missing toddler. Authorities are awaiting DNA confirmation to officially identify the remains as those of Daniel. A post-mortem examination has been inconclusive, prompting further tests to ascertain the cause of death.

During a vigil in memory of Daniel held in Donabate, parish priest Fr. Pat O’Reilly expressed the community’s shock and helplessness, emphasizing the need for closure. Fr. O’Reilly mentioned that funeral arrangements are pending due to ongoing tests.

The parents maintain that Daniel passed away in his sleep due to natural causes, claiming they found him lifeless in bed. Reports indicate that the couple manually dug a shallow grave and buried Daniel along with his cherished teddy bear, a gift from his foster family during his early years.

The search for three-year-old Daniel, who has been missing for four years and would have turned eight in December, commenced on September 2 following the cordoning off of the site on Portrane Road in Donabate.

Recent reports mention the seizure of a newly purchased phone belonging to Daniel’s mother, Maria, as part of the investigation into the child’s death. Investigators are examining the phones for potential information related to the case, including calls, messages, and location data.

Daniel was initially given up for adoption but returned to his parents after they were allocated an apartment. The child was reinstated with his parents by Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, after their change of heart.
