The Met Office has issued three new yellow weather warnings for heavy rain affecting 15 areas, anticipating potential floods and power disruptions. The alerts encompass regions in northwest England, southwest Scotland, and north Wales from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening.
The national weather service cautions that homes, businesses, and transportation services could be impacted by flooding and disruptions. The heavy rainfall expected over the weekend may lead to travel issues and localized flooding in England, Scotland, and Wales, according to the Met Office.
Northern England is likely to experience heavy rain spreading from the west on Saturday, clearing by Sunday evening, with accumulations of 30-50mm and over 100mm on high ground. Wales and Scotland could also see significant rainfall, with accumulations ranging from 30 to 40mm widely and up to 100mm on high ground.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Rebekah Hicks mentioned the uncertainty in rainfall timing and the risk of travel disruptions and flooding due to prolonged rainfall on already saturated ground. Unsettled weather conditions are expected to persist into the following week.
Today’s forecast indicates predominantly dry conditions initially with increasing cloud cover and rain in certain regions later in the day. Tonight, patchy rain is expected with heavier rainfall moving eastwards overnight, leading to clearer skies in the northwest.
