A tragic incident unfolded in Texas when a man, identified as Jose ‘Eddie’ Heriberto Padron Castillo, 45, was fatally attacked by his own pit bulls in the front yard of his residence on Louisiana Avenue in Bacliff. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office reported that the distressing event occurred on a Sunday.
According to neighbors, the attack commenced when Eddie attempted to prevent his dogs from chasing a passing golf cart. Upon hearing Eddie’s desperate cries for help, a neighbor named Jesus Excontitta courageously intervened by using a machete and a butcher knife to try to fend off the aggressive dogs.
Jesus vividly described hearing Eddie’s pleas for assistance and his continuous efforts to protect himself from the pit bulls. Despite his brave attempts, one of the dogs sustained injuries and refused to release Eddie, leading to a prolonged struggle.
The situation was only brought under control when law enforcement officers from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene. One of the dogs was shot by a deputy to halt the attack and provide aid to the victim. Eddie was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The two dogs were subsequently euthanized by the authorities.
Local reports indicated that there had been prior complaints about aggressive dogs in the area, causing unease among residents who avoided certain routes. However, Jesus defended Eddie, stating that he had taken good care of the pit bulls, which had been raised by him with care.
In the aftermath of the incident, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated to assist with funeral and memorial expenses. Eddie is being remembered as a beloved family member and friend, characterized by his warm personality and kindness. The fundraiser highlighted his legacy, leaving behind three daughters, a grandson, his mother, and six siblings, as a testament to the impact he had on those around him.
