On average, users of Lightning Reach receive around £750 in support. Since its launch in 2021, the platform has linked over 200,000 people to over £20 million in financial aid, which includes grants from councils and charities.
Among the partners accessible through Lightning Reach are the British Gas Energy Trust, TSB, and Lambeth Council. Eligibility can be determined through the Lightning Reach application portal.

The platform aims to address the escalating cost of living crisis, with household energy debt reaching a record £4.4 billion.
To prevent falling behind on payments, individuals should promptly contact their service providers to explore available assistance options. Seeking guidance from the local council is also advisable to inquire about potential aid from the Household Support Fund, which offers financial relief to low-income households through vouchers or direct cash payments.
For instance, the City of York Council recently announced one-time £100 Household Support Fund payments for the winter, distributed directly to recipients’ bank accounts without repayment obligations. Eligibility is typically tied to receiving council tax bill assistance.
