Police have provided an update following an incident where a mother and her child were ejected from their vehicle during a crash. The infant is expected to recover fully after being rescued from under the overturned car, as shown in a compelling video released by authorities on a busy highway.
Law enforcement responded to the scene on Thursday morning after receiving reports of the mother and child being thrown from their car in the accident. Body camera footage shared by the Fort Worth Police Department on social media depicts an officer rushing towards the flipped vehicle to search for the child, while a distressed woman can be heard in the background calling out for her baby.
The officer enlisted the help of other motorists who had stopped at the scene to assist in lifting the car. With instructions to move the vehicle, they raised it to free the child believed to be trapped underneath. Despite initial unresponsiveness, an officer detected a pulse in the baby and attempted life-saving measures, eventually prompting the child to breathe and cry.
Both the mother and child are expected to have a full recovery, according to the police. The department emphasized the challenging nature of such situations faced by officers in the line of duty. Police Chief Eddie Garcia praised the bravery of the officers involved, referring to the child as a “little angel” in a social media post.
