The individual responsible for the shooting incident at an immigration center in Dallas, Texas, where one person was killed before the shooter took his own life, has been identified in a photograph for the first time.
Joshua Jahn, aged 29, reportedly shot three detainees at the Dallas ICE facility on Wednesday. Law enforcement confirmed that at least four individuals were shot, resulting in one fatality from the incident.
According to the FBI, bullets bearing anti-ICE messages were discovered near the shooter. Joseph Rothrock, the head of the Texas FBI field office, stated, “Preliminary evidence indicates that the rounds found near the suspected shooter were inscribed with anti-ICE sentiments. This incident is another unfortunate example of such targeted attacks.”
A witness described hearing approximately 20 gunshots while waiting for her spouse outside the ICE facility. Arianny Sierra, accompanied by her nine-year-old son in their vehicle, recounted the harrowing experience of seeking shelter under the car during the gunfire before being escorted inside the facility by law enforcement.
Sierra, who sought refuge in the US with her family to escape violence in her home country, expressed relief that her loved ones were unharmed, tearfully stating, “Thankfully, my family is safe.”
In the aftermath of the incident, the FBI is treating the shooting as a deliberate act of violence. Senator Ted Cruz, addressing the press following the tragedy, emphasized the urgency of halting political violence, condemning those who use inflammatory rhetoric against ICE and CBP agents.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump unequivocally attributed blame for the morning’s events to the Democratic party. Trump, via Truth Social, criticized the presence of anti-ICE messaging on shell casings recovered from the scene, praising the efforts of ICE personnel while denouncing what he described as escalating threats and violence against them, which he attributed to “Deranged Radical Leftists.”
