“Green Party Leader Calls for Legalizing All Drugs”

Date:

The leader of the Green Party, Zack Polanski, advocated for the legalization of all drugs, including Class A narcotics, emphasizing the need for a public health-oriented strategy to address drug-related issues and combat criminal drug organizations. Polanski criticized the current approach to the war on drugs, labeling it as a failure and calling for a fresh perspective.

Speaking before his inaugural leader’s speech at the party’s national conference in Bournemouth, Polanski expressed his views to BBC South East, highlighting the inefficacy of the ongoing war on drugs and the necessity for a public health-focused approach. He pointed out that taxpayers are bearing the consequences of criminal activities associated with illegal drug markets and interconnected gang operations, attributing this to the historic reliance on prohibition as the primary solution.

In a spirited address, Polanski criticized Keir Starmer’s government, denouncing it as compliant to external influences and contrasting the Green Party’s stance of eco-populism with what he described as a regressive political landscape. He underscored the urgency of addressing climate issues and advocated for a shift towards a more hopeful and progressive political agenda.

Polanski further emphasized the need for alternative solutions to challenges such as the small boats crisis, proposing the expansion of safe and legal pathways for migration and advocating for a radical wealth tax to generate revenue for public services.
