UK households relying on Freeview for TV should check their equipment and consider retuning following recent channel changes. While not a major overhaul, performing a quick retune will ensure TVs are fully updated.
Freeview has confirmed that some broadcasters are updating their channels on May 20, 2026, prompting the need for viewers to retune their TVs to keep their channel lineup and TV guide current.
Among the changes, two channels have been renamed: Hobbycraft TV on channel 97 is now Shop Unlimited, and Great! Romance Mix on channel 61 has been replaced by Great! TV +1. Additionally, channel numbers are shifting, with Great! Movies moving to channel 62 from channel 61, while Great! TV +1 will now be on channel 61.
Freeview emphasized that channels are continuously evolving as providers make decisions to move, add, or remove channels, ensuring a diverse content selection for viewers.
If the updates are not automatically reflected on your TV, manual retuning may be necessary. To retune your TV, follow these steps:
– Press the menu button on your TV or set-top box remote
– Select “set-up”, “installation”, “update”, or a similar option
– If prompted for a password, try “1234” or “0000”
– Choose “first-time installation”, “factory reset”, “full retune”, or “default settings”
– Confirm deletion of existing channels if prompted
– The retune process should start automatically
– Save any channels found during the scan when prompted
