George Galloway was reportedly detained under the Terrorism Act upon his return from Moscow, according to recent information. Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism officers apprehended the former MP and his wife at Gatwick Airport today.
The couple had flown back to the UK from Abu Dhabi after their initial trip to Moscow. Authorities clarified that while both individuals were detained, they were not arrested and were subsequently allowed to proceed with their travels.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that a man in his 70s and a woman in her 40s were stopped under Schedule 3 of the Counter Terrorism and Border Security Act 2019 at Gatwick Airport. This legal provision empowers law enforcement to question, detain, and search individuals at UK entry points suspected of engaging in “hostile activity.”
Following his electoral defeat in 2024, Galloway declared his intention to contest a seat in the Scottish Parliament representing Glasgow Southside. His political party, the Workers Party of Britain, denounced the detention as politically motivated intimidation.
