“Forbes Reveals Bibury in Gloucestershire as World’s Most Breathtaking Village 2025”

Date:

The Cotswolds region is renowned for its attractive, golden-stone villages that captivate numerous tourists. Teaming up with Unforgettable Travel Company, Forbes has revealed its 2025 list of the world’s most breathtaking villages, with Bibury in Gloucestershire securing the top spot.

Situated along the River Coln near Cirencester, often dubbed the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds,’ Bibury has been praised for its charm for years. Renowned 18th-century designer, poet, and writer William Morris once hailed it as “the most beautiful village in England.” The village’s standout feature is Arlington Row, a collection of 17th-century weavers’ cottages.

For those planning a visit to this picturesque English village, travel enthusiast Haider Ali has shared a one-day itinerary for Bibury on Instagram.

Here are nine activities he recommends:

Begin your day with a hearty full English breakfast at The Catherine Wheel, a historic Cotswold pub offering a menu filled with locally sourced delicacies like smoked trout, pizzas, steaks, sausages, pies, and traditional roasts.

A visit to Bibury would not be complete without seeing Arlington Row, described by Haider as “some of the most photographed buildings in the Cotswolds,” originally built in 1380 as a wool store before being converted into cottages.

Nature lovers may enjoy a trip to Bibury Trout Farm, one of England’s oldest working trout farms where you can feed the fish, explore the serene grounds, and even catch your own trout.

For lunch, Haider recommends The Swan Hotel, a four-star establishment located by the River Coln, serving seasonal dishes sourced locally for a delightful dining experience.

Taking a leisurely stroll along the River Coln, a tributary of the River Thames known for its clear waters and limestone landscapes, is a must-do activity.

Explore St Mary’s Church, a historical church featuring stunning architecture dating back to the 12th century, showcasing Norman doorway arches and Saxon gravestones.

Venture around the village on foot to discover charming shops offering souvenirs and local goods like honey, jams, and crafts.

End your day with a traditional afternoon tea at The Swan Hotel or the cafe at Bibury Trout Farm, enjoying scones with clotted cream, sandwiches, and tea in a tranquil setting.

In the evening, unwind by the river or visit one of Bibury’s cozy local pubs for a quiet drink to wrap up your day.

These activities offer a delightful way to experience the beauty and charm of Bibury, making it a perfect destination for a day trip or a weekend getaway.
