Florida Executes Double Murderer Victor Tony Jones

Date:

Victor Tony Jones, aged 64, who was convicted of killing a married couple in a robbery back in 1990, met his end through execution on Tuesday. The execution occurred at Florida State Prison close to Starke, marking the 13th execution in the state this year. The process commenced punctually at 6:00 p.m., with Jones opting not to deliver any final words, simply responding with “no, sir.”

Shortly into the procedure, the warden attempted to awaken Jones by shaking him and calling out his name, but received no response. As Jones laid still, his complexion fading, a medic entered the death chamber and officially declared him deceased at 6:13 p.m. Officials confirmed that the execution transpired without any issues, as reported by the Daily Star.

Reflecting on the execution, Irene Fisher, the victims’ daughter, expressed her thoughts, stating, “After witnessing what I saw tonight, I wish my parents had the chance to pass away as peacefully, closing their eyes and departing. They were brutally murdered. My father struggled for 20 minutes with a stab wound in his heart, while my mother perished instantly in the bathroom on the cold floor.” This news coincides with a tragic incident where a 5-year-old boy perished in flames in front of his mother during ADHD treatment.

Jones had recently been employed at a Miami business owned by Matilda and Jacob Nestor in December 1990 when he fatally attacked Matilda and Jacob with a knife. Despite being injured, Jacob managed to seek refuge in an office, grabbing a .22 caliber pistol and firing five shots, hitting Jones once in the forehead, according to court documents.

Police found Jones at the scene, wounded and in possession of the Nestors’ money and personal items.

Jones was hospitalized and subsequently convicted in 1993 of two counts of first-degree murder, receiving the death sentence. Additionally, he was found guilty of armed robbery by the jury.

Fisher, accompanied by her two adult daughters and three other relatives, witnessed the execution of her parents’ murderer.

She admitted to experiencing mixed emotions, as she had never witnessed someone’s passing before. Nonetheless, she expressed relief that the process had concluded and justice had been served.

The Nestors operated a medical supply business in Miami’s Wynwood district long before it developed into the renowned arts and entertainment hub it is today.

The building where their store once stood now operates as a community center.

“My parents would have been pleased because they were always aiding the community,” Fisher remarked.

Since the reinstatement of capital punishment by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1976, Florida’s previous high for annual executions was eight in 2014.

Florida leads the nation in executions this year, with Texas following closely behind with five.

Jones filed an appeal with the Florida Supreme Court earlier in the month, citing intellectual disability and alleged mistreatment during his teenage years at a now-defunct state-run reform institution.

The court dismissed the claims, stating that the disability issue had already been addressed in court and the abuse allegations were never raised during the original trial. Just hours prior to the execution, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a final appeal without providing any comments.
