Users of various devices, including Samsung models, are facing screen flickering issues while using the Gmail app. Some individuals have reported complete text disappearance, while others see only blank white boxes instead of their email content.
Displeased Gmail enthusiasts have taken to social media platforms to express their frustrations. For instance, one user named Jeremiah raised concerns on X, stating, “@gmail, when will Android function correctly on folding phones like my Samsung Fold? The ongoing flickering problem on the inner screen is unacceptable after four days.”
Similar grievances have been shared on Google’s support forums. A user detailed their experience, mentioning the screen flickering issue that hinders email readability despite attempting various troubleshooting steps like force-stopping the app, clearing the cache, and device restarts.
According to Google product expert Kimiya Kitani, the problem seems to be related to Android System WebView, a critical component that enables apps to showcase web content within the application interface. Kitani highlighted that certain devices, particularly Samsung tablets, are encountering intermittent issues with Android System WebView, with Google already aware of the situation.
While the exact number of affected users remains unknown, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among those most impacted.
As a temporary solution, Kitani has suggested rotating the device to potentially stop the flickering. The workaround involves opening the email in portrait mode, switching to landscape mode until the display corrects itself, and then reverting to portrait mode.
In the interim, this workaround offers a straightforward approach for users as they await a permanent resolution from Google.
