“Europe-bound Holidaymakers Face New Travel Rules”

Date:

Europe-bound holidaymakers are encountering new travel regulations during the current half term. In England and Wales, the autumn break spans from October 27 to October 31, while Scotland has already begun its school break. Travelers embarking on trips this October need to be aware of the recently implemented Entry/Exit System (EES), which requires non-EU passport holders to provide personal details, including fingerprints and facial scans, along with financial information upon arrival in European countries.

Additionally, various tourist destinations are enforcing strict rules to manage visitor behavior. Albufeira in Portugal has issued a code of conduct to curb disruptive activities, with violators facing significant fines. Alicante has imposed curfews on bars and nightclubs to address noise complaints, while France has banned smoking in specific public areas, following a trend seen in other European countries.

Moreover, several cities across Europe are introducing tourist taxes to mitigate the impact of mass tourism. Venice now charges a day-trip fee, while Barcelona has raised its municipal tourist tax for luxury hotel guests. Some regions are also limiting the number of cruise ships docking in popular ports to prevent overcrowding.

In response to the housing market strain caused by short-term rentals, Málaga, Spain, has restricted new rental properties in certain neighborhoods. Authorities are taking steps to regulate platforms like Airbnb, with the Spanish government recently ordering the removal of thousands of holiday rentals deemed non-compliant.

Travelers should stay informed about these evolving regulations to ensure a smooth and compliant holiday experience in European destinations.
