Britain is potentially facing a snowstorm in October as per weather models. The latest GFS model projections indicate snowfall rates of approximately 4cm per hour in certain regions of Scotland on October 13, with snow showers expected to start early in the morning and persist throughout the day. Lighter snow flurries are also anticipated in parts of northern England, particularly in the Pennines.
According to the maps, a significant portion of northern and central Scotland could witness around 1cm of snow accumulation by midday on October 13. However, snow is unlikely to settle in southern Scotland or the northern areas of England.
The Met Office has forecasted unsettled weather conditions for the upcoming month. From October 13 to 27, the forecast suggests that more unsettled conditions will concentrate on northern areas, with drier intervals prevailing in the south, potentially leading to overnight frost and fog.
While the GFS model hints at snow, BBC Weather’s forecast for October 13 to 26 indicates that temperatures are not anticipated to drop significantly across Britain. The outlook mentions uncertainties for the following weeks, with potential ex-tropical cyclones affecting weather patterns. High pressure systems might bring drier conditions, with rainfall more probable in north-western regions. Although risks of overnight fog and frost exist, no extreme cold spells are expected, and temperatures are projected to remain near normal or slightly above average.
Towards the end of October, there could be a shift towards wetter and windier conditions as high pressure weakens, leading to the return of Atlantic low pressure systems. This change may result in variable temperatures with reduced risk of frost.
