The Duchess of Cambridge has revealed an endearing anecdote about her youngest child, Prince Louis, and his future career aspirations. Kate made her inaugural visit to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire as the Royal Honorary Air Commodore, where she experienced a loop-the-loop in an RAF Typhoon jet simulator and interacted with frontline pilots safeguarding the UK’s airspace.
During her engagement, she discussed her children, notably her seven-year-old son Louis, and his ambitious career goals. Upon arrival via helicopter, she received a briefing on the base’s involvement in operations in the Middle East and Eastern Europe amid rising tensions with Russia.
Exploring the Quick Reaction Alert hangar, Kate examined a Typhoon alongside Wing Commander Luke ‘Wilko’ Wilkinson, fascinated by the advanced technology and military equipment. She later ventured into the Typhoon Future Synthetic Training Facility, where she enthusiastically engaged in a simulated flight experience.
Amidst the visit, the Duchess disclosed that Prince Louis aspires to be a fighter pilot, acknowledging the dedication and effort required for such a profession. She was presented with model Typhoons for her children, showcasing their excitement for her aircraft encounter.
Group Captain Paul O’Grady praised Kate’s piloting skills after her simulator experience, hinting at a potential future flying a Typhoon. This visit marked her first official appearance at RAF Coningsby since assuming the role of Royal Honorary Air Commodore in August 2023.
