“Deputy PM Faces Criticism at Manchester Vigil”

Date:

Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy faced jeers and disruptions when he was introduced to speak at a vigil honoring the victims of the Manchester terror attack. Attendees at the event shouted criticisms at him, including accusations of negligence and blood on his hands. Despite the interruptions, Lammy encouraged people not to engage in protests over the weekend, urging them to reflect with dignity and refrain from escalating tensions.

The vigil took place following a tragic incident at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, where worshippers Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, lost their lives to a terrorist attack by Jihad Al-Shamie. Keir Starmer condemned the attack as an act of terror aimed at instilling fear specifically within the Jewish community. The Prime Minister emphasized the need to combat antisemitism and ensure the safety of the Jewish population, acknowledging the crucial role of police intervention in preventing further harm during the incident.

Acknowledging the bravery of worshippers who defended themselves against the attacker, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for their swift and effective response, emphasizing the importance of community support and solidarity during such challenging times. The incident underscored the urgency of tackling antisemitism and ensuring the security of all individuals.
