In one of Thailand’s picturesque regions, a once-promising hotel project turned into a series of misfortunes that led to its eventual downfall, leaving locals convinced it was afflicted by a curse.
The Galaxy, resembling a stranded cruise ship, was envisioned as a seven-story structure to draw in numerous tourists to the serene shoreline, but fate had other plans.
Following its demise, the abandoned hotel became a magnet for urban explorers eager to uncover the secrets of its former grandeur. Among them was US influencer Joshua T Yozura, who documented his visit to the site on Koh Chang island, south of Bangkok.
Originally a US Navy vessel later transformed into a traditional Thai ship, the hotel was acquired by a billionaire with dreams of operating a floating hotel. Situated in Koh Chang Lagoona, the resort, now deserted, was once a popular spot with luxurious bungalows and a dominating ship attracting visitors.
During its prime, the hotel boasted luxury amenities, but when Joshua visited, he found a deteriorating structure marked by rust stains, a stark contrast to its former opulence.
Surrounded by lush greenery, the eerie silence enveloping the abandoned hotel hinted at its troubled past. The downfall of the once-luxurious establishment was attributed to various factors, including the disturbance of a sacred Banyan tree that angered locals, earning the hotel a reputation of being cursed.
Reports of illnesses, accidents, and even deaths among workers and guests further fueled the hotel’s ominous reputation. Additionally, the tropical location’s mosquito-infested surroundings, leading to diseases like Dengue fever and malaria, contributed to guests’ apprehension about staying there.
After closing its doors to guests in 2012, the hotel briefly allowed visitors to explore its haunted decks before financial struggles and dwindling tourism forced its closure. In a mysterious turn of events in December 2024, the abandoned ship caught fire and was subsequently dismantled, leaving behind only charred remnants and a trove of supernatural tales.
