A family’s holiday trip turned nightmarish as two intruders committed an unfathomable act. Kaye and Rolf Tiede, along with their daughters Linae and Tricia, and Kaye’s mother, Beth Potts, embarked on a mountain cabin retreat days before Christmas. Unbeknownst to them, the secluded cabin had already been breached by two recently released ex-convicts, Edward Steven Deli and Von Lester Taylor, armed and intent on theft.
Upon entering the cabin, the family was held at gunpoint, restrained, and subjected to a horrifying ordeal. Tragic events unfolded as shots were fired, claiming the lives of Kaye and Beth, with Rolf narrowly escaping death due to the type of ammunition used. Rolf, injured but alive, played dead as the criminals set fire to the cabin before fleeing with the daughters on snowmobiles.
In a harrowing escape attempt, the sisters were coerced to assist the kidnappers until they were eventually rescued by authorities. The perpetrators were later apprehended, with Taylor receiving a death sentence and Deli a life imprisonment verdict. The surviving family members, resilient in the face of tragedy, rebuilt the cabin, symbolizing their triumph over adversity.
