Comedy legend Tommy Cannon expressed disappointment towards ITV for excluding him and his partner Bobby Ball from the network’s 70-year anniversary celebrations. The well-known duo, famously known as Cannon and Ball, had successful shows on ITV, such as The Cannon and Ball Show that aired from 1979 to 1988, and Cannon and Ball’s Casino in 1990.
Despite ITV’s celebration of its history with a variety of shows available on itvX, Cannon and Ball’s programs were notably absent. Tommy Cannon took to Twitter to express his feelings, stating that their contributions were significant and should have been recognized in the anniversary lineup.
Sadly, Bobby Ball, who later appeared in sitcoms like Not Going Out, passed away at the age of 76 in October 2020 due to COVID-19. Fans and viewers, echoing Cannon’s sentiments, expressed their support on social media, praising the duo for their comedic talents and impact on ITV’s legacy.
In a statement regarding its milestone, ITV highlighted its commitment to providing quality and entertaining television for the past 70 years. As the broadcaster gears up for new programming, it invites viewers to enjoy a selection of classic content from its archives on ITVX, showcasing rare and remastered material for free streaming.
Both Cannon and Ball also participated in the fifth series of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2005, aligning with ITV’s tradition of celebrating popular shows on the platform.
