“Bet365’s Denise Coates Earns £260M, Tops UK Executives”

Date:

Denise Coates, the prominent figure behind Bet365, has recently received an additional windfall of £260 million, bringing her total payouts over the last 15 years to £2.7 billion. This substantial sum further solidifies her position as one of the highest-paid executives in the UK and the top-paid female executive.

According to the newly disclosed financial reports of her family’s gambling enterprise, Coates received a salary of £104 million in the latest year, an increase from £94.7 million in the previous year. Additionally, Bet365 Group distributed three times more cash dividends to family stakeholders, totaling £313.6 million, with a significant portion destined for Coates due to her majority ownership.

While the recent windfall of around £260 million is slightly lower than her record-breaking payout of £469 million in 2021, it still surpasses the earnings of other corporate leaders in the UK. Notable figures like Eamonn O’Hare of Zegona and Pascal Soriot of AstraZeneca received substantially lower pay packages in comparison.

The Coates family’s wealth, estimated at £9.44 billion in the latest Sunday Times Rich List, positions them as the 16th wealthiest in Britain. Coates, known for her aversion to public attention, founded Bet365 in a modest setting in 2000 before transitioning to a grand, futuristic mansion designed by Lord Norman Foster’s architectural firm in rural Cheshire.

Moreover, the Coates family is recognized for their substantial tax contributions, with the group’s total tax payment to the UK Exchequer amounting to £481.5 million, an increase from £364 million in the previous year. Additionally, the Denise Coates Foundation received significant donations totaling £130 million in the last year, benefiting various institutions including The University Hospitals of North Midlands Charity.

Notably, Bet365’s revenue climbed by 9% to over £4 billion in the most recent fiscal year, although its pre-tax profit nearly halved to £348.7 million. The company remains committed to providing a secure gambling environment for its customers and actively collaborates with regulators to uphold best practices in safer gambling initiatives.
