Former Wales Women’s head coach, Warren Abrahams, has sadly passed away at the age of 43 while coaching the Belgium national women’s sevens team during a tournament in Nairobi, Kenya. The Belgium Rugby Federation confirmed the news, expressing deep sorrow over the sudden loss and providing support to the players and staff. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Originally from South Africa’s Western Cape, Abrahams had a background in rugby playing for Durbanville-Bellville and Stellenbosch University before transitioning into coaching. He had coaching stints with various teams, including Wales Women, USA sevens, England Sevens men’s team, and the Harlequins academy.
Harlequins, Abrahams’ former club, paid tribute to him on social media, highlighting his impactful leadership and commitment to player development during his time with the Academy. His tenure as Wales Women’s head coach lasted less than nine months, marked by challenges, including a winless Six Nations campaign during the pandemic, leading to his departure from the role.
