In Scotland, free school meals are provided to children from primary one to primary five, while in Wales, all primary school students are eligible for free school meals. In Northern Ireland, parents must apply for free school meals if they are claiming benefits, as they are not automatically given. Children attending private schools do not typically receive free school meals.
For those who do not automatically qualify for free school meals based on the mentioned criteria, there may be an option to apply if certain benefits are claimed until the child reaches age 18.
