Apple has introduced a new version of its popular AirTag, featuring an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip that enhances its range for improved precision finding. The updated AirTag offers up to 50% better Precision Finding, making it easier to locate lost items even from greater distances. This new feature is now supported on select Apple Watch models, allowing users to track down misplaced items directly from their wrists.
In addition to the enhanced range, the new AirTag boasts a redesigned internal speaker that emits sounds 50% louder than its predecessor. This improvement is ideal for locating the AirTag when it’s hidden in hard-to-find places like under clutter or behind sofa cushions.
The AirTag continues to leverage Apple’s Find My network, which uses nearby Apple devices to relay location updates anonymously back to the owner. Apple has prioritized privacy in this system, ensuring that AirTags do not store location history on the device and that all communication with the Find My network is encrypted end-to-end, providing exclusive access to the owner.
Moreover, the new AirTag seamlessly integrates with the Share Item Location feature in iOS, enabling users to securely share an item’s location with trusted third parties, such as airlines, to aid in recovering lost or delayed belongings. Apple has collaborated with over 50 airlines to support this feature.
The latest AirTag is now available for purchase on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability coming soon. Prices start at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, offering a more affordable option compared to the original AirTag, which started at £35.
