Google has announced that it will stop supporting Chrome on older macOS versions, affecting MacBook users. While Chrome will still function on MacBooks and iMacs, there will be no more updates or security patches, leaving users vulnerable to cyber threats. Google will cease Chrome updates for Macs running macOS 12 or below, prompting users to upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura for continued browser support. However, some older Mac models, such as iMacs predating 2017 and MacBook Airs bought before 2018, may not be compatible with Ventura, necessitating a new device purchase for safe Chrome usage. The update is set to take effect in July this year. Google’s blog post confirmed that Chrome 150 is the final version supporting macOS 12, with Chrome 151, scheduled for release on July 28, 2026, requiring macOS 13 or later. Users are advised to transition to macOS 13 or newer to receive future Chrome updates. While older Chrome versions will still work, no further updates will be provided for macOS 12 users, emphasizing the importance of upgrading to a supported macOS version for security and feature enhancements.
