A leading chain of local pharmacies has stepped in to rescue 60 outlets belonging to a competing firm from financial collapse.
Allied Pharmacies has assumed control of 60 Jhoots Pharmacies locations, most of which are currently closed. However, Allied has stated its firm commitment to restoring essential pharmacy services at these branches.
The acquisition now expands Allied’s network to approximately 210 branches spread across England and Wales, as reported by C+D.
In a statement, Allied emphasized the crucial role community pharmacies play in public health support and acknowledged the disruption caused by the closures, particularly impacting vulnerable groups reliant on local healthcare services.
Members of Parliament were briefed recently on the apparent closures of some Jhoots pharmacies, raising concerns about potential health service access issues within communities. Allegations were made that staff had faced financial difficulties due to payment delays.
The ownership of these pharmacies is divided between siblings Manjit and Sarbjit Jhooty, with reports indicating there were roughly 150 Jhoots Pharmacies in the UK earlier this year.
Manjit Jhooty, who owns over 20 Jhoots branches through his companies Pasab and Jhoots Healthcare, refuted any operational issues at his managed sites, asserting their financial stability and unwavering commitment to community services. Sarbjit Jhooty acknowledged workforce and recruitment challenges, stating efforts are underway to address these issues.
Jhoots has yet to provide a comment on the situation.
