Mercedes F1 team principal Toto Wolff decided to take a break from the Mexico City Grand Prix to attend a special event at London’s Lyceum Theatre in support of his wife, Susie. This departure from his usual presence at Formula 1 events was to show solidarity with Susie’s new book release, “Driven.” The event drew a crowd of 2,000 individuals who were captivated by Susie’s remarkable journey in motorsport, starting from her roots in the Scottish Highlands.
Prior to this, Wolff had participated in the Autosport Business Exchange in New York. Susie’s career trajectory began at the age of eight in karting, progressing to single-seat racing in 2001 with Formula Renault. Her advancement to Formula 3 with Alan Docking Racing was marked by a challenging season due to an ankle injury sustained during the off-season.
From 2006 to 2012, Susie competed in DTM, transitioning from Mucke Motorsport to Persson before joining Williams as an F1 development driver. In 2014, she made history as the first woman since 1992 to participate in an F1 weekend at the British Grand Prix. Following her retirement from Formula 1 in 2015, Susie became a brand ambassador for Mercedes, a role she continues to fulfill.
Additionally, Susie holds the positions of Team Principal for Venturi Racing in Formula E and managing director of the F1 Academy, an all-female racing series. While absent from the Mexico City GP, Wolff likely monitored his team’s performance closely.
Mercedes faced challenges at the event, with their driver Kimi Antonelli finishing sixth ahead of George Russell. The race was won by McLaren’s Lando Norris, with Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and Max Verstappen of Red Bull securing the other podium positions.
In the Drivers’ standings, Russell ranks fourth with 258 points, trailing Norris by 99 points, while Antonelli holds seventh place with 97 points. Mercedes currently occupies third place in the Constructors’ standings with 355 points, trailing Ferrari by a single point. However, McLaren leads the standings with 713 points garnered from 13 victories and 30 podium finishes.
