Professional Jockey Hospitalized with Neck Injury After Motorbike Accident

A prominent jockey of the Flat season has been admitted to the hospital following a neck injury sustained in a motorbike incident.

Clifford Lee, a 29-year-old stable jockey working with Karl Burke, has had a remarkable season, achieving 94 wins, including his first Group 1 victory aboard Venetian Sun in the Prix Morny. Despite being on the brink of reaching 100 wins for the first time, his plans were disrupted due to the accident that occurred during his holiday.

Burke, Lee’s employer, confirmed the unfortunate event, stating that Lee fell while riding a cross-country motorbike on holiday in Scotland. Despite traveling at a slow speed, the bike overturned, causing Lee to land on his head, resulting in his hospitalization.

Originally from south-east London with no racing background, Lee’s career flourished after joining Burke in Yorkshire, establishing himself as one of the top jockeys in the UK. His skilled pace judgment was evident in consecutive victories at the Cambridgeshire, a highly competitive handicap race, riding Boiling Point and Liberty Lane.

Supportive messages have poured in for Lee, who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Edinburgh. Well-wishers have expressed hopes for a speedy recovery, acknowledging Lee’s exceptional performance throughout the season and anticipating further success in the future.
