Ryanair will require passengers to utilize digital boarding passes exclusively starting next week. The airline has informed customers of this significant change effective Wednesday, November 12. Consequently, passengers will no longer have the option to obtain and print physical paper boarding passes.
Instead, passengers must utilize the digital boarding pass generated within the “myRyanair” app on their mobile devices – smartphones or tablets – during the check-in process for all flights. Ryanair stated that the majority of passengers, approximately 80% of over 207 million yearly travelers, already use digital boarding passes. However, this change will impact around 40 million passengers who still prefer alternative methods, such as printing their passes.
Dara Brady, Ryanair’s chief marketing officer, emphasized the benefits of this transition, stating, “Moving fully digital means a faster, smarter, and greener experience for passengers, while also offering easier access to various innovative in-app features.” Ryanair assured that the move would result in reduced airport costs, lower fares for all passengers, and save 300 tonnes of paper annually.
To address concerns from customers, Ryanair provided reassurances regarding potential scenarios where passengers may encounter issues with digital boarding passes. For instance, if passengers lose their mobile device, experience a battery failure, or do not possess a smartphone with the Ryanair app, free boarding passes can be obtained at the airport if online check-in has been completed.
Furthermore, Ryanair clarified that as long as passengers have checked-in online, the digital boarding pass will be accessible regardless of mobile signal availability. This transition aims to enhance the overall travel experience for all customers and streamline operations through the myRyanair app.
