“Keep Warm and Save: Experts Share Budget-Friendly Heating Hack”

Date:

As fall sets in and temperatures drop nationwide, many households are considering turning on their heating systems. Which? experts have shared a reliable method to keep your home warm during the colder months amid the recent energy price increase.

Starting October 1st, the UK’s energy price cap will rise over two percent to £1,755, resulting in an additional £35 on annual gas and electricity bills for standard tariff customers. Ofgem adjusts the cap based on wholesale energy costs, with this increase partly attributed to higher energy transportation costs and additional consumer support measures.

The price cap limits the rates for energy units and standing charges, but your actual bill will vary based on energy usage. Direct debit-paying households on standard or variable tariffs will be capped at £1,755 annually.

To help you save on heating costs this autumn and winter, Which? experts have shared a simple and budget-friendly trick using common household items. They suggest using radiator reflector foil or tin foil to maximize heat by reflecting it back into the room, particularly effective on external walls. The foil is affordable, around £8, and easy to install with adhesive backing.

This hack has garnered mixed reviews from Brits, with some finding it ineffective and others swearing by its effectiveness. Alternative suggestions include wearing thermal clothing or woolly socks for warmth. Regardless, the use of radiator reflectors could potentially make a noticeable difference in home heating efficiency.
