A stand-up comedian faced backlash after expressing bewilderment over a particular type of merchandise at Asda stores recently. Amy Mason, a writer and comedian, was shopping at an Asda store in Bedminster, Bristol, when she encountered a wide array of Disney-themed nighties while browsing through the pyjama section.
In a video posted on her Instagram page with over 33,000 followers, Amy showcased the assortment of Disney and novelty nightwear available, including Stitch-themed pyjamas, Minnie Mouse designs, Strawberry Shortcake, and more.
Amy humorously remarked, “How are women in Asda even getting… well, you know… how do they have kids? These are meant for grown adult women. I’m puzzled by this.”
She added, “Don’t mistake my comments for snobbery because Asda Bedminster is my go-to, but I was looking for comfy pajamas. Even as a single lady, I wouldn’t wear these to bed like a sad oversized baby!”
Amy continued, “I have an actual comfort blanket, and I wouldn’t choose these! Imagine wearing a Stitch nightie.”
While Amy’s video garnered over a million views, some viewers were upset by her remarks. Several individuals expressed differing opinions, with one defending character-themed pyjamas, saying it’s a personal choice, and another mentioning the appeal of Disney attire even for adults.
Despite some agreeing with Amy’s perspective on the lack of variety in stores for non-character pyjama enthusiasts, others defended their preference for character-themed sleepwear, emphasizing personal comfort and individuality.
In an update, Amy acknowledged the negative feedback she received, stating it was meant in jest and encouraging everyone to wear what brings them joy, noting the limited options available during her shopping experience.
